The 3cB issue to me is like saying there are tons of cheap generic 16 bit IDE controllers lets see how we can force one to work in an XT. I don’t recall the details but it’s in the datasheet for these cards. For those having trouble tracking down a card to work in an 8 bit slot Here is a link to a web site that allows you to look them up: EXE utility available online and configure it in the following manner.. I rather pay more get the right tool in this case the XT-IDE and know it will work every time I flip that big red switch.

Think of a packet driver as the device driver for the Ethernet card. Please test it, you will find the files attached to this post. Yeah maybe think of it less like a ‘hack’ and more like an ‘unofficial patch’, fixing those nasty bugs they had in there.
I’ll tinker with this bit tomorrow and see what I can come up with. It has to match the Ethernet card, or at least be in the same “family” of chipset that the Ethernet card uses to have a chance.
I appreciate the assistance though. Not exactly cheap but then I am not relying on hacked drivers to make them work.
Here’s a picture of the board with the VRM installed, outside of the case. I used TASM 4.
JT64, I can keep an eye open for you on the domestic market as well. I found the config program that works Just wanted to share my 3c509v with this modified driver.
Feeling lucky, is the 3cB compatible with using NE drivers?
Packet driver appears to be working, so two things come to mind: Everything I’ve come up says Windows 95, 98,and even XP. Some of the b-tpo do not have this extra chip.
Sharing is caring ya know. I prefer to do some programming that let me reuse some spare cards more than buying other “historically correct” cards.

Not an exact analogy but you get the idea. Make sure you are using a 3Com 3CB card.
As for the second solution, it’s on a wire going directly to the router. Here is a link to dow web site that allows you to look them up: Or would there be more to it? Board index All times are UTC.

The packet driver detects my card perfectly, but then DHCP fails to work. Thanks in advance of any assistance. I don’t think it’s actually reading anything as FF: I think the original configuration utility will only work on a or better.
EXE utility would help this. Exactly the point I was making, illustrated I see that the driver has different input routines for and We’ll just need a config utility to go with it for some cases.
Thanks for the upload.

That is the reason why I modified this packet driver, I have some spare 3cB cards and as the packet 3ckm source code was available, the work was not too complicated.
I rather pay more get the right tool dox this case the XT-IDE and know it will work every time I flip that big red switch. It’s not going to work. For those having trouble tracking down a card to work in an 8 bit slot
